SAT Curriculum
Instructors may elect to adjust the curriculum based on the student's or group's specific needs.
Verbal
Vocabulary: The SAT has reintroduced a focus on vocabulary. While there’s no official SAT word list, we recommend students study the 100 most commonly tested vocabulary words to boost their chances of recognizing them on test day. Additionally, learning key roots and prefixes can help students confidently decode unfamiliar words and improve their accuracy. Students can expect to be periodically quizzed on vocabulary and roots/prefixes.

Reading Comprehension: One of the most challenging parts of the SAT is often the short passage section, where students must analyze a brief paragraph and answer a related question. To improve performance in this area, we recommend using the “visualization method” (see sample video below), which helps students better understand and retain what they read. During our test prep, we also expose students to a variety of strategies for reading both informational and literary texts, and provide practical tips to boost both timing and accuracy.

Grammar: The SAT (and ACT) continue to test students on grammar and sentence structure. To help students succeed, we review the most commonly tested grammar rules and teach practical strategies for quickly identifying and eliminating incorrect answer choices. Our goal is to ensure that students approach this section with clarity and confidence.

Notes: This section is often where students are most prone to careless mistakes. We focus on helping them recognize and avoid common pitfalls that frequently lead to unforced errors, ensuring greater accuracy through attention to detail.

Math
Brushing Up on Forgotten Topics: A large portion of the SAT Math section is based on topics from Algebra I, Algebra II, and Geometry—subjects many students haven’t reviewed in years. We revisit these foundational concepts in a clear and structured way, helping students rebuild confidence in the areas they’re most likely to be rusty on.

Problem Solving & Data Analysis:: This category focuses on analyzing data from charts, tables, and graphs, and solving real-world problems using ratios, proportions, percentages, and basic statistics. We emphasize strategies for extracting relevant information quickly and setting up calculations efficiently.

Advanced Math: These questions test deeper understanding of functions, polynomials, and nonlinear equations. We help students break down complex problems into manageable steps, understand function notation, and apply appropriate strategies for both standard and unfamiliar formats.

Smart Calculator Use with Desmos: The SAT now allows the use of the Desmos graphing calculator on the entire Math section, and knowing how to use it strategically can significantly improve both timing and accuracy. We teach students how to graph functions quickly, check equations visually, and use Desmos for solving systems, finding intercepts, and analyzing word problems more efficiently. By integrating Desmos into their test-taking approach, students can save valuable time, reduce computational errors, and double-check their answers with confidence.
